Working with furniture craftsman Ken Tomita, we built many beautiful pieces of furniture using a wide variety of wood spices. After most projects we are left with scrap material. I gather scraps and cut off, finding the discarded material interesting and try to find some practical application for it. In most cases there isn’t much you can do with the scrap especially because we do a great job getting the best yield out of all the material so we are left with very little scrap. After building a few office desks, we found ourselves left with some beautiful pieces of exotic woods most no longer than three feet and not wider than two inches. I developed this lamp to showcase these beautiful scrap pieces and to give a three dimensional form to the pieces with light and shadows.
